Cloughmills GAC was the venue for North Antrim’s Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football tournament.

This was the first time St Brigid’s PS competed in a Gaelic Football competition and what a debut it was for the boys and girls of Ballymoney!

We got off to the perfect start, with group games against St Anne’s Corkey, Ballycastle IPS and Cushendun, resulting in victories for St Brigid’s with some well-taken goals from our forwards and fantastic points from midfield. Having topped our group, we progressed to the Cup semi-final against the home side, and our namesake, St Brigid’s Cloughmills. This was a very tight battle against two evenly matched sides and a fantastic game of football. Ahead at half-time, we knew we had a tough second half ahead as we played against a stiff breeze. Our boys and girls weren’t going to let that stop them, however, as they powered on with some well-worked moves and impressive scores to secure their place in the CUP FINAL!

After a quick break, we took to the field again for the final against St Joseph’s Dunloy. This was our toughest match of the day, against a very strong side. Despite the tired legs, we played our hearts out and battled right to the final whistle. In the end it was Dunloy who emerged as deserved winners, but our boys and girls can be extremely proud of the football they played today.

Congratulations to St Joseph’s, Dunloy, on winning the cup, and also to Glenann PS who won today’s Shield. Thank you to Kieran Megraw of Gaelfast and Lawrence O’Kane of St Brigid’s Cloughmills for organising today’s tournament and also to Mr McGrath for refereeing. A great day all round.

Lastly, thank you to our team who did us proud today, both on and off the field. Just brilliant!
