Year 4 Visit the World War Museum

28th February 2024

On Thursday 22nd February, 24 excited ‘evacuees’ set sail for the NI War Museum in Belfast as part of their WAU topic, ‘Through the eyes of a child.’

The children really got into the spirit of the trip by dressing up as evacuees from 1940 and they all looked fantastic!

In the museum, the children became History Detectives as they searched for hidden clues and answers around the exhibitions. We visited the Home Front Kitchen where the children discussed a selection of weekly rationed foodstuffs and the contents of an evacuee’s suitcase. We discussed the Belfast Blitz of 1941 and the children were shown pictures of the devastation and destruction caused in Northern Ireland 83 years ago.

It was a super day and P4 thoroughly enjoyed their trip and the opportunity to travel back in time and discover what World War two would have been like ‘through the eyes of a child.’
